What made you and your sister [Chris] decide to try out? Or did you make that decision on your own?
Terra White, the 24-year-old Arlington, Texas native who joined her younger sister Chris
as part of the America's Next Top Model
cycle 15 cast this season, was in for quite a shock during last night's episode--even after Tyra's stylists chopped off all her hair.
The surprise? Makeover day was an elimination day for the remaining thirteen contestants, with Tyra's right-hand men Jay Manuel and J. Alexander deciding which girl didn't rock the new look she'd just been given. When it came down to the final call, the Jays said Terra didn't have the posing skills to live up to her style, so they sent her home immediately, leaving her heartbroken sister to fight for the title in a challenging fallen angel photo shoot
I spoke to Terra this morning about her experience on Top Model
, from trying out with her sister to her frustrating elimination:
I actually tried out three times before this one, and I was kind of at the point where I was like, "I'm not going to try anymore." And my sister was like, "We should try again one more time. Don't give up." And I was like, "Yeah, I shouldn't give up on something that I really want." And she was like, "Well, I'm going to go, too." So it was a spur of the moment thing. It's funny how many people I talk to who say the exact same thing. It's almost like once you let go and think, "This is my last shot," that's when you get on.
Yeah, I mean, and I just feel like it wasn't my time the last three times. I hadn't come into myself. I had to figure out who I was before I could do anything. And that's what you want to do on this show. You want to be yourself. You don't want to portray something you're not.
Your elimination last night was so surprising. So immediate after makeovers. Why do you think they did that?
I still, to this day, can't figure it out. And I don't know. I just take it as it is. I can't figure out why. What was going through your head when that happened?
I kept saying, "Are they serious? They just cut off seven, eight inches of my hair. They can't be serious." I just thought it was a complete joke.Do you feel like you had enough chances to prove yourself?
No, I don't think so. After you get a makeover you have a completely different look, and you need to see what you can do with that look. They couldn't see what I could do with the look with an elimination that quick.Did you come around about your makeover, or did you change it once you were off the show?
I'm slowly coming to like it, but it's taking time.I actually thought it looked beautiful.
Oh, thank you. It's just taking some time. What did you think of the teen bullying photo shoot?
I liked the purpose of it, but I thought we were supposed to empower
ourselves, coming from that word. And then when I got on set it was
like, put yourself back in that moment. I didn't like that, because
we're not supposed to have that word anymore. On the episode last night, you said that you felt like Chris was your second chance. Was it harder or easier for you to leave, knowing that she was still going to be there?
I wouldn't say it was easy to leave. It was hard for me to leave, but it was easy because I know she's going to be there to represent both of us. She did really well in her photo shoot last night. Were you proud of her?
I'm always proud of her. Even if she messes up, I know she's going to correct it the next time. I'm always proud of her.Who do you think might give her a real run for her money?
I don't think so, because she's going to do what she needs to do to make it to the top. She's not going to let anyone get in her way. Especially because I'm gone, now she has a straightforward purpose. She knows what she needs to do, and she's not going to stop or mess around. But if there was anyone else besides your sister who should win, who do you think it would be?
I really like Kendal because she knows her lines. She knows how to pose. And her runway walk is beautiful.Do you plan to continue modeling?
I'm going to keep modeling and I'm going to exhaust all my outlets. I have a degree in health, so if that doesn't work out, I plan to teach health.
