Joining the judging panel of America's Next Top Model for Cycle 14, Vogue head editor Andre Leon Talley has plenty of expectations. It looks like he'll be giving these aspiring contestants a difficult time when it comes to pleasing him, but that's all part of the learning process.
Still, he has a few reminders to those hoping to make it big in the modeling industry, at least, via America's Next Top Model. With Andre Leon Talley's tutelage and Tyra's ability to smize, these girls will have to prove themselves worthy. But they do have to heed what this judge has to say first.
"I'm always looking for a model who projects strength, tenacity, and fortitude, patience, ambition, dedication and passion," the judge told
The Wall Street Journal. "Modeling should be something they love but they shouldn't just be in it for the glamor."
As most of us know,
America's Next Top Model has always projected the idea of inner and outer beauty. Even Andre Leon Talley agrees. "They should be there to learn and become better people," he said.
But as a judge, there are just some obstacles that plague him. Certain contestants just can't be taught, so he has several disapproving remarks for those who keep defending themselves when criticized.
"Someone who makes excuses when you give them your observations, be they personal or professional," Andre Leon Talley explained. "I just don't think they should make excuses. They should take notes and say 'thank you.' That's what I did. In my day you didn't speak until spoken to. You are the student. We are the teachers."
Being such, this
America's Next Top Model judge is bound to cross some lines. There may be drama, but it's all in the name of leading these hopefuls towards new learning. "I think of myself as providing life coaching with out being too blunt," Talley went on.
The girls just have to get used to it, because this Vogue editor has already made a deal to return. He promised: "I've already signed on for two more cycles."
