If
America’s Next Top Model was a competition that was strictly about modeling, then
Elina,
McKey, and
Marjorie would most likely be the final three. Unfortunately for two of them at least, that is not the case. When Tyra Banks and her panel of judges are deliberating, they take all kinds of things into consideration, from being a good speaker to a level of ego or arrogance to having the ability to take direction. For Elina, her refusal to let go of control was her ultimate downfall. For Marjorie, her lack of confidence is what got her eliminated from the competition. I think I basically understood Elina’s issues but a model with no faith in herself always leaves me scratching my head.
It’s not like Marjorie really had anything to be so upset about this season. She performed well, was called out first twice in panel and won two reward challenges. Early on, she was constantly praised for her creative and beautiful photos but that praise didn’t seem to sink into Marjorie’s brain. About midway through the season, her insecurities started to get on the nerves of the other models in the house. She complained constantly that she wasn’t going a good job, worried about every little thing, and her fellow competitors didn’t want to spend time making her feel better about herself.
The thing that always gets me about a model like Elina or Marjorie when they are eliminated is that it’s not like it didn’t come without warning. Tyra told both of them for weeks on end what they needed to change about themselves and they were incapable of doing so. So w hen Marjorie is eliminated as she was on last night's episode, I don't necessarily think she should be sent home for a lack of confidence. There are plenty of models in the industry who I'm sure have body or self-esteem issues. She should have been sent home for refusing to work on it. Week after week, we saw her paranoia get the best of her, making her virtually incapable of communicating in panel and unable to deliver at her shoots. She was given a warning, a fair chance to make changes, and she didn't. C'est la vie...
Which model has issues that are a bigger problem?
