'America's Next Top Model' Rewind: Season 5
In cycle 5 of America's Next Top Model, some changes were made that only benefited the show in the long run.  Fashion icon Twiggy replaced Janice Dickinson on the judging panel, bringing her tactful but honest style of critique.  Nole Marin was replaced by J. Alexander who provided extensive knowledge on the perfect runway walk and has also given us many memorable moments over the years.  The winner in cycle 5, Nicole Linkletter, received a contract with Cover Girl, representation with Ford Models, a fashion spread in Elle magazine, and the cover of ElleGirl magazine for her prize.

If not for a kiss between two girls and a fight over a granola bar, this season may be entirely overlooked.  When compared to other cycles, this is not one of the standouts.  Let's look back at the models, the pictures, and the drama that made cycle 5 of America's Next Top Model.

That Tyra, she can be so tricky sometimes.  Models should always beware when it's time for that dreaded makeover episode.  Cycle 8's Brittany can relate.  In cycyle 5, it was Cassandra Whitehead who received the most drastic change.  A former pageant winner, Tyra worried that's all she would ever be so she tested her by chopping off her brown hair and dying it blonde.  Despite her protests, Cassandra ended up doing well in the photo shoot was not eliminated that episode, only to turn around and quit when she found out her hair was to be cut shorter.  She was the first model to ever quit the competition.

Some people like granola bars.  Some people love them.  And then there's Bre Scullark who became enraged after she felt Nicole stole her precious granola bars.  You wouldn't think something would anger someone so much, but you've never take a granola bar from Bre.  The moment was so memorable, it was re-enacted in a cycle 8 photo shoot with Jaslene Gonzalez.

Another memorable moment came from Kim Stoltz, an openly gay model who had hard time taking feminine pictures.  She was criticized in her season by her fellow models, for talking too much behind everyone's backs.  Kim made it to the top 5 and even landed a role on Veronica Mars after the show.  Her most infamous moment, however, came when she and Sarah Rhoades shared a kiss in the limo.  This moment was also re-enacted in the cycle 8 photo shoot with Dionne Brown.

Winner Nicole Linkletter got out of her Ford modeling contract, which was part of her prize, to sign with Elite Model Management instead.  She has made several appearances in Elle magazine, walked several runway shows this and last year, and was a judge on last year's Miss USA pageant.

The new season of America's Next Top Model kicks off next week and we'll be looking back at a different cycle each day as we get ready for the premiere!  Post your favorite memories or the ones you'd rather forget and check back tomorrow as we take a look at cycle 6.
