This morning, the girls of Cycle 12 reunited on Tyra Banks' other show to reminisce about their time on
Top Model. Between chatting about the drama and friendships created on the show, one contestant shared some very big news:
Tahlia Brookins announced she is pregnant.
For reasons that escape our understanding, Tyra insisted that all the girls wear bikinis on stage. (Because you know, nothing is more flattering than sitting in an arm chair in a bikini.) However, the fact that the girls were wearing itty-bitty two-pieces, allowed Tyra to ask, in her usual subtle manner, why Tahlia was clutching her stomach. "Speaking of Tahlia, you've been holding your tummy this whole time. And you're not covering your scars, because we know you're very proud of your scars. Why are you holding your stomach?" To which Tahlia responded, "I just so happen to be pregnant." In a move that is just as confusing as the insistence that the girls wear bikinis on stage, the crowd goes wild for Tahlia's news. Because, you know, 18-year-old unwed mothers are such a very good thing.
Tahlia went on to say that she was shocked to discover that she was
pregnant, because "I was told multiple times over and over that I
couldn't get pregnant just from my scars holding me back, other
physical things going on with my body. I was always told I was never
going to be able to conceive children." The father of the child is
Tahlia's ex-boyfriend, David Michaels Jr., who is also 18. Tahlia says
the couple are currently taking a break and trying to work on
complications that had arisen in the relationship. "During the show
David and I were together. Once I got home, he and I started having
some complications. Shortly after that, we did break up because we both
agreed that we had some stuff we needed to work on individually. So
that is exactly what we are doing and still doing."
Despite being separated, both David and Tahlia are excited about their
impending bundle of joy. Regarding the pregnancy, David, who works at
an AMC Theatre in Tahlia's hometown of Phoenix said, "When I first
found out I was surprised and excited at the same time because members
of my family since the moment they saw me and Tahlia together have told
me that they know we are going to be together and have a family
together. And, yes we have complications we are working through right
now, but I know we will be able to get through it as a couple because
we both still are in love." Tahlia herself added, "We support each
other and our families support us. So now I'm just ecstatic."
To congratulate the happy, um, non-couple Tyra surprised Tahlia with
baby gifts, including a stroller, baby blankets, and onesies. Tyra's
excitement and support of Tahlia seems in stark contrast to the message
she was trying to convey in this Cycle's first photo shoot, where the
contestants posed as good girls rising above bad examples, including a
pregnant teen.
