I am finding myself pleasantly surprised by Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model
For one thing, I think this is one of the overall stronger group of girls that we have seen recently, and it's nice to see a batch that has several girls who actually look like real models as opposed to just pretty girls who will make for good America's Next Top Model
This week, I'm going to once again run through the whole group, because there was a lot to look at in this set of photos.
America's Next Top Model is available on Amazon Prime.
Elina, Marjorie and Lauren Brie all had photos that looked truly high fashion. I will admit I was thoroughly unimpressed by Lauren Brie's first offering, but now that I've seen this, I am very interested to see what she does next. I'm still a little concerned about Elina's ability to elongate, but from a natural talent perspective, she's got a lot of presence. I love the little bundle of nerves that is Marjorie. I hope she starts to get more confidence in front of the judges because I want her to stick around.
Joslyn is, to me, just a hair behind the best because though her pose is gorgeous, her face has just a smidge too much tension. McKey and Analeigh are two more examples of the face not living up to the potential of the pose, but I think they both might be able to do well if they get more comfortable.
Sheena's pose looks good, and I think she has a kind of magnetic presence that comes through in her photos. But her face looks a little too unsure and her chest really does look off in this photo with this pose.
The judges think Brittany looked like high-end catalog. Maybe I am being influenced by the Vegas mag we saw her pictured on during the auditions, but all I think when I see this picture is one of those regional lifestyle magazines geared at the country club set. You could photoshop her right out of this onto once of those covers. She needs a knock on the head by the high fashion fairy's wand to help break her out of that mold.
Hanna's pose would be interesting done by someone with better modeling chops, but with her, she just looks uncertain and stiff.
Clark just isn't doing anything for me in this shot.
I don't think Nikeysha's is that bad, and I guess even after looking at a gajillion fashion photographs in my life, I still can't tell the difference between Fashion Emaciated and Unacceptably Emaciated because I didn't think she looked that much skinnier than, say, Jaslene Gonzalez
. So while I think the judges made the right call from a personality perspective, this isn't the worst photo of the day, I think. Not the best, though, either, for sure.
I'm still rooting for Isis, but I couldn't find the same positives in this photo as the judges did. To me, it's not a good pose or a good face.
Samantha showed a little promise last week, but her lack of fashion knowledge seems to have hamstrung her this week. This photo doesn't look fashion; it looks like a plus-size Heather Caldwell from Rock of Love.
Let's hope she can pull out a better shot on next week's episode of America's Next Top Model
