Ben Stein, host of
America's Most Smartest Model, is still taking an active role in promoting his documentary film,
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, which promotes intelligent design as an alternative scientific theory to evolution.
Yesterday, Stein, who also happens to be a comedian, lawyer and a former White House speech writer, appeared at the Missouri Capitol to screen the documentary for lawmakers. The film has been highly criticized for asserting that the complexity of life on earth can only be the work of a creator and for claiming that educators and scientists are being persecuted for their belief that there is evidence of design in nature.
In the movie, Stein discovers an elitist scientific establishment that has traded in its skepticism for dogma. Along the way, he comes across a long line of scientists and philosophers who have had their “reputations destroyed and their careers ruined by a scientific establishment that allows absolutely no dissent from Charles Darwin's theory of random mutation and natural selection."
In addition, Expelled also documents how teachers and scientists are being ridiculed daily, denied tenure and even fired for believing there is evidence of “design” in nature. Stein demonstrates this by featuring and meeting with other scientists who were fired from their jobs for previously challenging the current orthodoxy that life is entirely a result of random chance.
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is expected to hit theaters on April 18.
Before working on
Expelled, Stein graced the silver screen with his teacher role in
Ferris Bueller's Day Off and
Frankenstein General Hospital as Dr. Who. However, he gained more exposure on television with his roles on
The Wonder Years,
Charles in Charge and
Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man, before landing a hosting job on the reality series
America's Most Smartest Model.
Meanwhile, fans can expect Ben Stein to reprise his hosting duties as
America's Most Smartest Model returns for a second season later this year.
