Simon Cowell stands by Hasselhoff
Simon Cowell stands by Hasselhoff
Apparently Simon Cowell doesn’t see David Hasselhoff’s alcohol troubles as a problem for Hasselhoff’s job as judge on America’s Got Talent. Cowell says he would never have considered replacing Hasselhoff.

Earlier this month, the America’s Got Talent judge was the focus of a minor media scandal, after a video of Hasselhoff drunk, filmed by his teenage daughter Taylor-Ann, appeared all over the news. Simon Cowell, who is not only an executive producer of America’s Got Talent but also considers himself a good friend to Hasselhoff, says he would have stood by him if the leaked video, which was reportedly made by his family to show him what he was like when he was drunk, had caused any of the show’s other producers to replace him. (America’s Got Talent season one judge Brandy Norwood was recently replaced with Sharon Osbourne after being charged with vehicular manslaughter.)

"David is one of the kindest most loyal human beings I have ever met in my life and I will stand by David any day of the week," said Cowell.

The other producers of America’s Got Talent did not actually suggest firing Hasselhoff, but Cowell says if they had, he himself would have quit the show as well.

"If he'd gone, I would've gone. We're like that, me and David; he's a loyal friend."

Hasselhoff himself reportedly told his fellow America's Got Talent judge, British journalist Piers Morgan, that he wished he’d “used a knife and fork to eat that burger" in the video. Morgan says Hasselhoff is "already seeing the funny side of his video.” As well, last week at an America's Got Talent taping in Las Vegas, Hasselhoff joked about the video with the studio audience, asking "Anybody know where I can get a hamburger?"

America’s Got Talent returns for a second season Tuesday, June 5 on NBC.
