Born Gerald Norman Springer on February 13, 1944 in East Finchley, London, Jerry Springer is an Englishman who became an American celebrity. He used to be a democratic mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a musician, television personality, with so many shows to his name, one being his own show The Jerry Springer Show. Before his career on television, however, he was educated in Forrest Hills High School and Tulane University where he earned a degree in Arts, majoring in political science. He also earned his doctorate in Northwestern University. His political career took a decade where he ran for congress but failed to win. However, he was elected in 1971 as part of the Cincinnati city council. He was later forced to resign. After his political career he turned to journalism to use his skills and talents. He had a broadcast career in which he hosted radio shows, became a political reporter and commentator, a news anchor, and finally a managing editor. The Jerry Springer Show started out in 1991. He also made an appearance as a contestant in Dancing with the Stars in its third season.

Jerry Springer's latest endeavors include hosting the show America's Got Talent. He replaced Regis Philbin in hosting the show. Jerry Springer was fit for the position since he was experienced in dealing with wacky people like the contestants on the variety-talent competition series.
