In one word, the guy's hot, but let's not dwell on the obvious.
The finale cast of America's Got Talent is complete. Joining the first batch of finalists from last week are: Barbara Padilla, Hairo Torres, Recycled Percussion, Lawrence Beamen, and - Drew Stevyns. Yes, the singer-guitarist from Maryland makes it, perhaps to the chagrin of those who decry his being not a great singer. But news flash, people, Kevin Skinner isn't either, and he's being touted by the judges and some fans as "the one to beat" this season.
On the other hand, when Stevyns sang Careless Whisper last night, it was clear that this guy can sing! Again, awesome song choice and, to borrow an
American Idol cliche, he made it his own, he really did (and I say that not only because Sharon Osbourne said so). It was something that reminded you of either Daughtry or David Cook. However, we're talking about Vegas on
America's Got Talent. Both Daughtry and David Cook made it as far as the music industry is concerned, put either of them on Vegas, that's another story.
Nevertheless, in the very unlikely event that it becomes a toss-up between Drew Stevyns and Kevin Skinner, I'd go for Stevyns any day. I'm not sure if it's merely a preference in music, but the kind that Stevyns offers doesn't lull me to sleep at the very least.
The other four finalists are dead give-away's, of course. I mean, Piers Morgan buzzed four out of the ten acts last night. He hasn't exactly been the fountain of objectivity this season, but going that way, the last spot came down virtually between Drew Stevyns and The EriAm Sisters, and now we know who won that showdown.
Will Drew Stevyns win
America's Got Talent? No. But Daughtry didn't win
Idol either.
