America’s Got Talent is a talent show created by
American Idol’s
Simon Cowell. Broadcast on NBC, it focuses on finding America’s next best amateur act. It showcases all sorts of performers, consisting of singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and other talents from various ages, and their attempt to win the competition for one million dollars.
Initially,
America’s Got Talent will have an audition round that would put contestants under the scrutinizing eyes of the three judges. The judges have a button in front of them that they can press if they do not want the contestant’s act to continue. When the judges press the button, a ringing sound effect will be heard, which indicates the disapproval of the judge who executed the pressing of the button. When a distinct louder sound is heard, this means that all three judges have rejected the performance, which automatically terminates the contestant. In order for a contestant to move on to the next round, the approval of two out of the three judges is necessary. When the contestant reaches the semi-final round, a second button is added to signify the judges’ approval. After four semifinal episodes, the judges deliberate to choose selected acts to move on to the final round. At this point, viewers can participate by voting online, through phone or via text messaging.
Ken Warwick, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, and Jason Raff are the producers of
America’s Got Talent. Broadcasting its second season on June 5,
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8:00/7:00C on NBC.
