Will They Bake 'American Pie' Back to Theaters?
Ahhh, American Pie.  It was one of the bigger hits of the not-so-recent past; the first film, released in 1999, made over $235 million in the box office.  Two successful sequels later, the franchise took a breather, but continued in the guise of direct-to-DVD films that are similar to the original series' story, but does not continue from where the third film, American Wedding, left off.  All of those DVDs had Eugene Levy, however.

Those DVDs have been successful, too, but reports say Universal Pictures is planning to pull the plug on the spin-offs in favor of a fourth American Pie film.  To top things off, it is also reported that the studio is planning to pick up from where American Wedding left off.  Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) got married at the end of the third film, and perhaps the film will center on a bump in the relationship.  Yes, that's either a marital problem, or an actual baby bump.

Nothing has come out from the studio yet, although sources claim the idea is picking up steam and will be officially announced soon.  There's also no word on whether all of the franchise's original cast will return. It's going to be an interesting development, however: the last film was released in 2003, and the series' fans have grown up by then.  How different—or similar—will a fourth American Pie be?  Time remains the answer.
