Ex-boxing champ George Foreman, possibly as well known for his marketing of the George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling Machine as for his boxing career, has joined ABC’s
American Inventor as a judge for the second season.
American Inventorreturns to ABC on June 6. Like last season, the show, from executive producer Simon Cowell, will narrow down hopeful inventors into twelve finalists. Judges' scoring and viewer votes will determine whose invention will win a million dollars.

Last year’s
American Inventor winner, Janusz Liberkowski, also gained a business deal with Evenflo Company for his Spherical Safety Seat, an infant car seat. Runner-up Ed Hall was invited by Hasbro Games to look into marketing his Word Ace spelling game. Several of the other finalists also received business offers after the series showcased their inventions.
Also added to the second-season judging panel alongside Foreman will be entrepreneur Sara Blakely, creator of the Spanx undergarment line and runner-up of Richard Branson’s 2004 reality series “Rebel Billionaire.”
Entrepreneur, author, and former NBA executive Pat Croce joins them.
American Inventor is not the only reality series Croce’s been connected to this year; Mark Burnett reportedly consulted him for Pirate Master, as Croce has not only written a book called “Pirate Soul,” (which Burnett gave to the crew of his new show for “for background and historical reference”) but also runs a “pirate-themed” museum in Florida.
Executive producer and businessman Peter Jones returns as the fourth judge. This season, ABC television host and reporter Nick Smith joins the show as host, replacing the departed Matt Gallant.
Auditions for the second season of
American Inventor took place over March and April in six casting cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Houston, and Tampa. (The Tampa auditions had originally been announced for Orlando, but were moved because of “production logistics.”)
