Elliott Yamin propelled to fame as a finalist in the fifth season of American Idol. During his time on the show, he received a number of outstanding compliments despite his little experience in entertaining. He ended up being in a respectable finishing place and became the first and only, so far, male contestant to rank third place on the popular singing competition. A week after his elimination, he returned for the season finale, where he performed a duet with six-time Grammy Award-winning R&B and hip hop singer, songwriter and producer Mary J. Blige. His rendition of “One” was considered by the judges as one of the highlights of that evening.

Following American Idol, Yamin guest starred on shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Live with Regis and Kelly and Dayside. He also graced many events, performing at the NBA finals, in the annual Pop Tart-sponsored countrywide tour, and at the Virginia State Fair, where he had his own solo concert, performing nine cover songs with the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra. Later, he released a single rendition of the song “This Christmas” on AOL Music, and shortly signed a music-publishing contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and a record deal with Hickory Records and RED Distribution, which served as the promoter of his album. On March 20, 2007, he released his debut album and subsequently made television appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Total Request Live to promote his album. He also launched a CD release party at Circuit City in his hometown Richmond and went to New York Times Square Virgin Megastore to sign CD autographs.

At present, Yamin is performing in his first solo national tour, which started on May 17, 2007 and will last until June 21, 2007.
