Lakisha Jones Biography:

Lakisha Jones is a 27-year old single mother from Fort Meade, Maryland. She started singing when she was five years old and prefers Gospel to other musical genres. Lakisha has received training in both classical and opera music, but has a very wide vocal range, which she showed off during her audition in New York for season 6 of American Idol . She blew the judges away with her rendition of Aretha Franklin's “Think.” Lakisha worked her way through the Hollywood auditions and became one of the Top 24. She considers her grandmother Ruth Morris as her personal American Idol. Her favorite female pop artist is Kelly Clarkson , the first winner of American Idol.

Although Lakisha Jones earned positive reviews for her performances of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" by Jennifer Holliday and Jennifer Hudson , "Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight & the Pips and "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston on the sixth season of American Idol, she was eliminated on May 9, 2007, consequently landing 4th place in the contest.

She toured with the Top 10 finalists on the American Idols Tour 2007, and got rave reviews for her solo performance of “I Will Always Love You” also by Whitney Houston.  Post-Idol life for Lakisha Jones proved to be rewarding as she had two homecoming events.  The first one commenced at the Abundant Life Cathedral Church, her home from 2000 to 2006, in Houston, Texas on May 30, 2007, the date which was also declared as “LaKisha Jones Day.”  The other homecoming event occurred on June 9, 2007 at Atwood Stadium, Flint, Michigan, the place where she was born and raised.  It was at this ceremony that she received a $6,000 check and six-month free lease on a new Buick LaCrosse.  She also received a Flint watch, personalized tree ornaments from Bronner's and a card signed by 300 fans.
