Tim Urban - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen
She's Just Being Miley:
Miley says that Tim gets a bad rep for being boring, but in reality
Miley, Tim's gotten bad reviews for being just shy of terrible.
Compared
to what we just heard from Paige, Tim sounds like Pavarotti* (* with
laryngitis and drunk). In all seriousness, it is Tim's best vocal
performance so far and he's doing everything he can to engage the audience. He's
giving them high-fives like he's Oprah, he does a dramatic slide on the stage nearly running into the camera
and he even does a little shimmy. It's way over the top, but at least it's
something. Here's the thing, Tim Urban is here to stay this week
-- and if he can do that again -- for possibly a couple weeks to come. It's corny, but it's something and women in the audience are going wild.
Simon Says: Randy
says the best thing about it was the slide. Ellen thought it was corny
(which is saying something indeed). Simon says Tim has "zero chance of
winning."

Aaron Kelly - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith
Aaron Kelly has both laryngitis and tonsillitis this week and I still bet he'll sing better than everyone whose gone so far.
She's Just Being Miley: She liked Aaron's audition of
The Climb. Aaron just likes Miley. A lot.
You
can tell that Aaron is struggling with his voice tonight, he's not able to
accentuate his notes with power and most of the tune sounds like it's
in a lowish sing-songy whisper. Aaron is a power ballad singer, this is THE
(most annoying) power ballad, and it lacks the energy and punch that it
needs. Still, even with laryngitis, tonsillitis and his very famous
crush sitting in the audience, it was still the best vocal performance
of the night.
Simon Says: Kara and Ellen think it's the
best song choice of the night. (I think this song should be banished to
a fiery hell for all eternity.) Simon says it was brave and that Aaron
is a little "trier." And that there is zero chance he is going home.
(Which, lets be honest, just raised the chance of him going home.) Then
Ryan vindicates me and calls Aaron Kelly David Archuleta.

Crystal Bowersox- "Me and Bobby McGee" by Janis JoplinShe's Just Being Miley: Miley says that Crystal should embrace her high notes. Crystal is not so sure, but has Miley sign her guitar any way.
Looks
like Crystal took Miley's advice, because she starts out in a higher
register than we've heard her sing all season. She's also taken a
classic song and done what she can to make it her own. Janis seems like
too obvious of a choice for Crystal, but you knew it was coming and at the very least, you
knew she would do Janis justice. And she does, but I feel like Crystal is stuck in
her gospel rootsy rut and I really want her to break the mold. That being said, Crystal was still heads (with dreads piled high) and shoulders above
every other performance tonight. I think Crystal
is a star and a successful artist in the making and I bet the judge agree with me.
Simon Says: Randy says Crystal is what
American Idol
is about. Kara asks if Crystal could put the guitar down and Crystal
promises she has big plans for next week. Simon wouldn't change a thing
and says Crystal's version of "Me and Bobby McGee" is as good as Pink's
version, which is high praise indeed.
