Kris Allen - "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill WithersKris
used to be shy about singing for his family, and had to be paid in
quarters. Adorable, I suppose. Kris rocks this on the piano, starting
slow, maybe more emotional than the first time. I'm not sure. The
full band kicks in half-way through the first verse, and Kris drops
some soaring vocals, totally in control in tune. He breaks it down
with the famous "I know, I know..." chorus. He slows it all the way
back down for the end, and finishes it off with a nice little falsetto
note. If there was any doubt that these two deserved to be in the
finale, it's been tossed away after these first two performances.
Randy
shouts out the Lakers for no reason. He knows the kind of artist Kris
will be, and calls this one of Kris's best performances of the season.
Kara says that there is SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU if Kris Allen doesn't
move you. Paula Abdul, who fell asleep in the sun after lathering
herself with butter, loved the performance. Simon says he wasn't sure
America made the correct choice last week, and he absolutely "takes all
that back after this performance." Good start to the show.
Simon,
at Ryan's urging, calls the first round for Kris. OK. It's the same
thing as last year. They want Adam to win (and so do I, so don't
accuse me of anything, you), and so they're going to plant seeds of
doubt in America, try to get Adam's voters to go crazy and satiate
Kris's base a little. Am I wrong here?
