Kid Rock Proclaims "American Idol Sucks"
In a recent interview with Blender Magazine, Kid Rock recently proclaimed that "American Idol sucks."  Hardly an original sentiment, at least Kid Rock's argument regarding Idol's deficiencies is well-thought out and articulate.  Oh wait, it's not.  That wasn't Mr. Rock's full quote.  He continued, explaining: "I think they should allow songwriters in. Someone singing a song they wrote – there's nothing more powerful. But whatever, they're doing fine; they don't need me, and I don't need them."  I'm pretty sure that quote makes very little sense, but perhaps Rock just lives and thinks on a higher plane of existence than the rest of us.

Maybe there is actually some important context for his quote in the full interview that would actually make it seem like a reasonable thing to say.  If the question was “What are your thoughts on American Idol?” then I suppose this is a legitimate response.  But, I see no reason for Blender Magazine to ask Kid Rock such a question.  I have a feeling it was a non sequitur whose sole purpose was to be controversial.  I guess it worked, because we're discussing it.  Kid Rock has a new album and it apparently contains the same sort of country/rap/rock thing going that made him briefly relevant in the musical zeitgeist.  The reviews have been mixed.

In the interview, he also says that “being married sucks” and discusses a sex tape he made with Creed lead singer Scott Stapp and four anonymous women.  Rock explained, “I do want to apologize publicly for that tape. Not for the tape ... just for hanging out with Scott Stapp." That, my friends, is funny.  Even if I don't like Kid Rock's music, he seems like a somewhat likable dude.  Anyone who has the gall to get into an altercation with Tommy Lee at the VMAs is OK in my book.  Even if his thoughts on American Idol are beyond meaningless.
