, finalist of American Idol
season 3, is once again the subject of buzzing news. According to MSNBC, there is a possibility that the former American Idol
contestant might play the role of rhythm & blues legend, Aretha Franklin, in her upcoming production, which features her autobiography.
Hudson, a 24-year old native of Chicago, has acquired numerous awards for her role as Effie Melody White in the 2006 musical film entitled Dreamgirls
. After her stint on American Idol
, she has garnered an Academy Award, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a SAG Award. Given her credentials and her controversial status, her name surfaced as one of the options for Franklin.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Franklin expressed her sentiments. “Well, I don’t know. I’m not sure,” Franklin said. “The producers want to know how I feel about it, about her playing myself. What I’d like to see is three different people playing myself…There’s a young lady who opened the tribute [show] out in Los Angeles that the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) gave me who was very good, and I’ve heard another little girl who was quite good…Perhaps someone playing me from the age of 25 to about 40 and then someone else beyond that which is just a little bit.”
With this said, Franklin is bound to be involved in the casting process for the musical theater version of her autobiography. Not only will she be choosing who gets to portray herself, she will also be involved in choosing the actors who will play members of her family, friends and other key associates relevant in the story of her life. At this point, the infamous singer has already noted a few worthy candidates eligible to portray Franklin but has not yet disclosed any names to the public. Auditions for the much-awaited production will start on May 1, 2007.
