BuddyTV Podcast of Glory: Talking 'American Idol' with Justin Guarini
BuddyTV Podcast of Glory: Talking 'American Idol' with Justin Guarini
BuddyTV discusses the new season of American Idol with season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini.

We have our first special guest of the season on BuddyTV's Podcast of Glory!  Justin Guarini stopped by earlier today to talk about what he's up to currently (he's pretty busy), but mostly we discussed the current season of American Idol.  Justin, obviously, is uniquely qualified to discuss American Idol as the first ever runner-up on the show.  The Top 36 kicks off tonight with the first batch of twelve singers performing on a special two-hour episode.  Justin and I previewed the night, and we talked about who we're looking out for and who our early favorites are.

Below you will find the full mp3 audio of the podcast.

Topics of Discussion

We began the podcast discussing what Justin is up to currently.  He's got two separate shows on TV Guide, he's involved with Gone Country on CMT, and he's writing and recording his third studio album, which he hopes to release as soon as this summer.

From there, we talked about the new season of American Idol, and the changes in the format.  Justin and I talked a lot about the Top 36 format, its similarity to season one, and the pros and cons of going to the twelve singers per week format, as well as the power the judges hold with the new Wild Card round.

We talked about our favorites so far, and one person we both love is Anoop Desai

And, finally, we talked about the shame of having people like Tatiana Del Toro and Nick Mitchell make it to the Top 36.

One final note: this podcast clocks in at a manageable twenty minutes, far less than the John vs. Oscar podcasts you may be used to.  Also, we think that Justin will be returning from time to time to discuss the American Idol season.
