After a third round of open performance, the American Idol
guys are not fairing well with viewers, or odds makers alike. That's right, it's that time of year again, time for the bookies to start giving their odds on favorites for American Idol.
It's a tricky business, with a sordid history; sometimes the online betting parlors nail the American Idol
race head on, sometimes they completely miss the mark. This year, though, just about everybody agrees that the next American Idol
isn't going to be a guy.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
If your looking to play the longshot, you might bring in a mother lode if Antonella Barba wins the competition. Online oddsmakers DocSports.com are giving the controversial contestant 5000 to 1! Put ten bucks on Barba, and if she wins, you can buy fifteen minutes of Michael Jackson's time! What a bargain.
Looking to play it safe? Melinda Dolittle won't make you much money on the track, but according to the bookies at DocSports, she is the one to beat. Next in line is Lakisha Jones, who I personally think has a much better chance of nailing American Idol's big prize. The men come in at +700, with Blake Lewis tying with Sabrina Sloan.
What would be interesting would be to see this season's contestants given odds against season five. The buzz on American Idols so far this season is that, there is none! This would not be the first season where there was no apparent runaway favorites, but many of the contestants this time around are looking like lame ducks to American Idol's audience.
Essentially, this season has a general lacking of the "it" factor. There are a few unique personages, and a couple vocal talents that are extraordinary both in their ability, and their predictability, but there is no one, yet, who seems to be giving you that "lift".
If we focused on the odd man out, and returned to the odds, Chris Sligh at +900 might actually be our guy. Taylor hicks consistently tracked this far behind the leaders last season, until he was in the bottom three, at which point he tracked behind Katherine McPhee right up to the end.
What kind of odds is your favorite American Idol pulling down?

Just how are these odds calculated? A big factor is DialIdol.com, a sight that uses special tracking software to determine which contestants are leading votes. So far, DialIdol has been increasingly accurate in predicting who will be voted off, and who will win American Idol. We'll see if this year breaks their streak.
