American Idol

David Hernandez was, not surprisingly, eliminated from American Idol last night.  The past two weeks have been quite a whirlwind for Hernandez, the man from Glendale, Arizona.  When the story broke last week that David had spent some time working as a male stripper at a mostly gay cabaret, Hernandez was forever catapulted into infamy.  The American Idol conspiracy theorists would like you to believe that Hernandez's elimination last night was no coincidence.  I'm pretty sure this is not the case, but I won't rule out the possibility that his stripping past contributed to his lack of votes.  Today, David conducted a live conference call with the press.  These are the highlights:

A reporter points out the irony of him being the one to take The Beatles class in college and then have Lennon/McCartney week take him out.  David's first choice was actually “Let it Be” but that was already taken.  Or, maybe the Idol producers like Brooke White better than him.  As for his immediate plans, Hernandez is going to do the Today Show and the Ellen show.  Later, he's going to shop around an album deal.  He really, badly wants to make an album.  He says over and over again that he wants to get a record out in the next year.

Hernandez was able to block out all the superfluous things from his mind.  That includes all the male stripper story.  He doesn't mention it specifically, but alludes to it.  He's stayed away from TV and the internet and focused on his singing.  He attributes his downfall this week to a poor song selection, at least in the judges' eyes.  Next week, David was planning on singing “Yesterday” or at least that's what caught his eye on the new list.

David was happy for Kristy Lee Cook and that she's staying on the show.  He'd like to work with her later on in his career. Hernandez is very clear that he believes the voting was not affected by his past as a male stripper.  The entire experience has been a positive one for David.  He was a roommate with Chikezie Eze since Hollywood week.  David won't name any of the favorites.  Going back to college is at the bottom of his list right now.  Again...he really, really wants to sign a record deal.  Apparently, Elizabeth Hasselbeck brought up the possibility on The View that David's elimination was a conspiracy.  David doesn't agree with this, but he doesn't really disagree with it.  David says, about his past, that Idol was fine with everything in his past. If they weren't he wouldn't have been on the show.
