Wednesday night is the night when we finally saw Katrina Darrell's fall from grace—of sorts—from
American Idol. The girl who, whether we like it or not, is better known as Bikini Girl made such a dent on the show, which is fairly unusual given it's still in its early stages: she showed up at the Phoenix auditions in a bikini, spurred an argument between the judges, got to kiss (forcefully, perhaps) host
Ryan Seacrest, show up virtually unprepared at the Hollywood auditions, and get eliminated by waving like a beauty queen. And, perhaps, all the vitriol she deserves, from viewers to pundits to us here. I think.
Or, in Ryan's words, she's “very polarizing.”
Obviously Katrina's fifteen minutes of fame isn't still up. We'll still talk about her and all, despite her having been eliminated two nights ago. Part of the new discussion will undeniably come from Ryan's phone call to her yesterday morning, and the things that she said during that. Yes, he did call her back—but, well, it's for his morning radio show in Los Angeles, which means almost everybody heard it, and then some.
“There are a lot of women who wouldn't get along with you and didn't on the show and didn't as viewers,” he started. “And there are some that believe it or not, actually understand you.”
“I know,” she merely replied. “It's crazy. A lot of girls are haters.”
But isn't it because she herself did so many annoying things, which is why many girls hate her now? Like, say, not hugging her fellow group members on stage on Wednesday night? Such a “bad sport,” Ryan described.
But, Katrina contended, her group mates “threw [her] under a bus.” And she went to sleep because her back and feet were painful.
“But, Katrina, this is the shot of a lifetime,” he answered back. “Who cares if your feet hurt?” I heard a boom in my head.
Bikini Girl also made such a dent on new judge
Kara DioGuardi. After all, she called her a bitch on air not just once, but twice. “That's another thing, too,” Darrell admitted. “‘Oh, I think you're a beautiful girl, and I like your derriere.' And then as soon as I walk out, ‘she's a bitch.' You know what I mean?”
Oh, and Kara also told her to “next time, bring your pole.”
“I am not a stripper,” Katrina responded. “I do have a stripper pole in my room. But that's only for fitness. It's not for any other reason. So don't get it twisted.”
For all it's worth, she thought it was time for her to leave
American Idol and, perhaps, pursue a career as a singer and a Victoria's Secret model. If she could change anything in the past, though, it would be the bikini she wore to the auditions. “In a sense, I shouldn't have worn the bikini, but I'm a risk taker and I think you should live every day like it's our last,” she said. “And it was 110 degrees in Phoenix, and I wanted a chance.”
And, finally, a message to Kara: “Hopefully we can become better friends in the future, but if you continue to hate…”
It really did stop there.
Or not. “When are we gonna make out again?” she asked Ryan.
To that, his answer was simple: “It's still against the rules.”
I heard another boom in my head.
