American Idol: The final four is set
Barring an epic shock, tonight's double elimination on American Idol was not going to be an earth-shattering event.  There seemed to be a clear top three among the fans and the judges: Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, and Jordin Sparks.  After that, I sure wasn't going to be surprised by any elimination tonight.  And I wasn't.  However, now that we have our top four, the overall picture has gotten clearer.

Next week could be interesting, though.  I know who I think will be going home, but I'm not going to proclaim it a certainty.  To me, the likeliest candidate for elimination next Wednesday is Lakisha Jones.  This is contingent, however, upon Lakisha reverting back to her typical, underwhelming self.  She has been prone to flashes of brilliance, as we witnessed yesterday and a couple times earlier in the season, but she has yet to put together a string of great performances.  She'll need to if she wants to stick around.

I'm working under the pretense that, under no circumstances, will Melinda or Jordin be eliminated next week.  This is by no means a certainty (remember Chris Daughtry), but those two ladies seem to have a loyal voter base that will vote for them no matter what.  And, they've been the two consistently best singers all year and, besides Jordin's little hiccup yesterday, we should expect a solid performance from both next week.

The big wild card, as he has been all year, is Blake Lewis.  If he drops another “wow” performance next Wednesday, I think he'll be safe.  But, will he have the intestinal fortitude to remix a popular song?  Will he be reticent to go out on a limb two weeks in a row?

An all female top three doesn't seem likely and, if I'm remembering correctly, we've never had one before (Oops, it happened during Fantasia's season...thanks JoshHollowayFan).  I'm calling it early: Lakisha Jones will be eliminated one week from today.
