Here's the weekend new roundup of all things
Idol.
Tragedy struck Underwood's current concert tour when a truck driver transporting equipment for a concert at Foxwood Resort Casino in Mansantucket, Connecticut, was killed. The truck
crashed into an embankment on the highway and burst into flames, killing the driver. Authorities say the victim was an Oklahoma native in his 40s.
The concert still continued as planned, with Underwood dedicating a performance to the truck driver, and asking the audience to sing along.
Here's a very short clip: it doesn't show Carrie, who was visibly shaken, finish the song to a standing ovation.
Before tragedy struck, Underwood had time to
talk about her upcoming wedding with hockey player Mike Fisher. "I have an idea of what I want; I just have to talk to the designer," she said of her wedding dress--but it's
something she isn't fussing about. "Mike and I don't really care about a lot of that stuff," she said. "In the end, we'll get it done."
Elsewhere, Kara DioGuardi talked to
Access Hollywood about
her newfound closeness to Simon Cowell, something I still find odd, if not awkward.
"I don't know what is happening, he's leaning into me," she said. "He must be warm. I'm starting to see it. He puts his arm around me. I really like him and I'm really gonna miss him [when he leaves]."
Speaking of Simon:
So You Think You Can Dance's
Nigel Lythgoe thinks Idol will survive once Simon leaves, as long as they get the right guy. "If I were doing it,
I'd get Elton John!" he said. "He's quick-witted, honest and obviously he has an incredible pedigree of music." Now, only if he has time for it.
Lythgoe thinks they should ditch the fourth judge slot: "The one thing everyone forgets is that
Idol is an onion, it has many layers, but it's about the talent. I think we'd forgotten that a bit."
The Late Show with David Letterman will feature
all Top 12 Idol contestant as guests, starting Monday, when Letterman plays host to Lacey Brown. Let's see if she gets this one right.
