'American Idol' Roundup: An 'Anti-Hollywood' Role, A Non-Existent Wedding Date, And That Rogue Thank-You Note
While sometimes I wish we could only focus on the upcoming Top 12 reveal on American Idol, there is a much bigger world out there. Err, I meant past seasons, and the judges, too... thus, this roundup, featuring more on Simon Cowell's engagement, Katharine McPhee's NBC pilot, and someone not having a reaction towards Carly Smithson's next project. But first, three shoo-ins for the Top 12...

Andrew, Lee and Alex: going rogue! Surely you've seen their quick thank-you video to fans that they posted on YouTube? Idol producers took it down but a fan put it up again, so you can still watch it.

What exactly does "anti-Hollywood" mean? Katharine McPhee talked to the New York Daily News about her role in an NBC comedy pilot, The Pink House. "My character is the anti-Hollywood," she said of her character Emily, a Midwesterner living in Los Angeles. "She doesn't worry about the calorie consumption she's taking in. She is a nice girl but says what's on her mind." By the way, you can catch her on Community this week, too.

Scott MacIntyre preps another album. You can't really call it his debut album--he's released several as a classical pianist, after all--but he's releasing his first post-Idol album, Heartstrings, on Thursday. Perfect timing: he'll be performing on Idol that same day.

And now, all eyes are on Simon's new squeeze. The British media's taken a lot of interest in his fiance, Mezghan Hussainy. The Daily Mail uncovered Mez's past marriage, one that didn't end well thanks to it being arranged and "loveless". Simon's ex, Terri Seymour, has reportedly wished Mez the best. Oh, and there's interest on this side of the pond, too: Simon told USA Today that he hasn't set a date for the wedding... yet.

And finally... what should she know? Spin caught up with Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee and asked her about Carly Smithson's new band, We Are The Fallen. Of course, that band also features a lot of former Evanescence members, including main songwriter Ben Moody, thanks to a fairly bad split and a pretty high-profile rebirth. Lee's take? "I don't have any."
