Paris Bennett, the fifth place finisher on the fifth season of American Idol, has created a little mini-Idol of her own.  Earlier this week Bennett, 20 years old, gave birth to her first child.  This might come as something of a shock to American Idol fans, who might remember Paris as the teenage sensation from American Idol 5.  The child is named Egypt Bennett.  Paris was in labor for five hours.  In a statement to the press, Bennett said that she's "so excited to finally see my little angel. Man, does she have lungs on her. I guess she's gearing up to be the next American Idol."  You heard it here first: Egypt Bennett, front-runner on American Idol 22. 

Paris Bennett is continuing her music career, which hasn't taken off since her American Idol season like many fans thought it would.  On October 15, Bennett will release her newest album, “A Royal Christmas.”  Bennett certainly has the voice to succeed in the recording industry, but the R&B game is so competitive, especially when you aren't an expert songwriter.  Paris is young enough, however, and could still easily have a fruitful career ahead of her.

It used to be that professional women in the music industry (or any entertainment industry) avoiding having children at a young age, in fear that it would adversely impact their careers.  This has changed significantly in recent years.  It's unclear whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.  That our culture is more accepting of young mothers is a good evolution of our collective tolerance, but the young mothers might also be poor role models for their young fans.  With the recent rumors that Jamie-Lynn Spears may be pregnant with her second child at the age of seventeen, we've clearly gone in a new direction.  It is somewhat disturbing.  Frankly, I don't know what to think about it all.  What are your thoughts?
