has, once again, made history. Her newest single, “My Life Would Suck Without You” just made the largest leap to number one in Billboard history. In all fifty years of the Billboard Top 100, no song has managed to reach number more triumphantly. In just a week, Clarkson's single went from the number 96-spot to being the number one single in America. Granted, Britney Spears' “Womanizer” made a similar record-breaking jump from the 95-spot earlier this year.
The list of Kelly accomplishments continues. Not only did she break Billboard records today, but she's also the only American Idol
contestant to get a second solo #1 single. Evidently, “Since U Been Gone” only made it to number 2, which is ridiculous given its popularity and continued respect. In fact, every previous solo number 1 has been a finale performance.
The jump was primarily fueled by the massive amounts of digital sales the single had in the past week. She sold almost 280,000 downloads which was more than enough to get the single to top the Digital Tracks chart.
After the relative failure of “My December,” many would call this a comeback. Hit makers Max Martin and Dr. Luke produced “My Life Would Suck Without You” and everything seems to be right on track for the original Idol star. The album entitled “All I Ever Wanted,” originally set to release on March 17, is rumored to get a one or two week bump to either March 3rd or March 10th. Given the early success, a date change seems likely.
The music video, set to premiere on American Idol
actually leaked earlier today and it's spread across the Internet like wildfire. I'm sure the producers of Idol aren't too pleased that such a big event has lost its luster. But, for Kelly, it's great. Now that the video is out, I'm sure she'll stay at #1 for a couple more weeks. Her song is catchy, her vocals are awesome, and there's no question, Kelly's back.
