Jordin Sparks has had a crazy past nine months. The seventeen year old became the youngest winner in
American Idol history. She just finished up the long and grueling
American Idol tour, all the while working on her debut album. Sparks' first album, which she has been working on when there's been time throughout the summer, will be released on November 17. Now that the Idol tour is finished, Jordin is in Los Angeles, focused completely on finishing her album in time.

American Idol winners are uniformly rushed through their first album, so they can get it released as soon after their season as possible. This timetable ensures that the record label will have a ton of creative control over the album, though Sparks says that the record company has been very hands-off when it comes to the songs being recorded. Jordin Sparks has worked with a number of big-name producers already, including Underdogs, Robbie Nevil, Stargate, Sam Watters, and Eman. I don't know who any of these people are. Maybe you do.
The debut album will be self-titled, and feature an eclectic mix of R&B, Hip/Hop, Pop, and Country styles. That sounds about right for Jordin's sensibilities. I've always been skeptical of Sparks' record sales potential, that she doesn't have enough of an edge or a distinct style. What she needs badly from this album is a bona fide hit. If the singles aren't great, Sparks won't be coming close to
Kelly Clarkson or
Carrie Underwood numbers.
Jordin Sparks also commented on her future career, and that after watching
Jennifer Hudson pick up her Oscar, she might consider acting. Sparks said, “"I would love to do some acting. I did musical theater back home, and I love being on the stage and acting out. It's so cool to become a different character for a little bit, so if the opportunity comes along, I'd love to do a movie or Broadway. If I ever actually have the time, I'd love to do it."
