"American Idol Gives Back" this week: A-list stars compete for viewer votes
This week big stars compete on American Idol, as the hit show takes a break from the ongoing competition to bring us a two-night special on April 24 and 25 to help raise money for charities in the US and Africa. American Idol executive producer Ken Warwick says he can guarantee the show will contain “humor and a few shocks. I know it will also move people to give generously.”

The two-day special promises performances of “inspirational songs” by many A-list stars, and viewers will vote on the Tuesday show to narrow it down to six by Wednesday. Quincy Jones will be writing a special song for the top six.

For every vote cast on Tuesday, sponsors will donate money to help American charities such as Save the Children, America's Second Harvest, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and The Children's Health Fund and charities operating in Africa, including the US Fund for UNICEF, Save The Children, The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and Malaria No More. On Wednesday, viewers will get to call in and make their own donations. Donations are also being accepted already on the American Idol website.
