'American Idol' Does Songs from the Movies: Suggestions for the Top 8
This week is "Songs from the Movies" week, which also means, for me, a week of disappointment. It may disappoint because A) "My Heart Will Go On" and "Unchained Melody" will be out there on the table, B) "Songs from the Movies" doesn't just mean "Songs from Top Gun," and Pia isn't here to sing "Take My Breath Away," and C) Who will do a tribute to Burlesque? But it's time to move on. So, with my limited knowledge of songs from movies, here are my choices for what I'd like to hear the Top 8 sing.

Casey Abrams
Song: "Danger Zone" from Top Gun

I always want someone to sing something from Top Gun, and if anyone could/should do it this week, it's Casey. I think he could make some Kenny Loggins work. Anyone who has tried to sing "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" at karaoke night knows that the range is very difficult and could make you accidentally crap yourself when you're trying to hit the higher notes. So "Danger Zone" it is! Or "Footloose" from Footloose.

Lauren Alaina
Song: "Holding Out for a Hero" from Footloose

The 80's were great for songs from the movies. Wouldn't this be awesome? She could have America off the couch and punch-dancing like mad. She'll probably just sing something from Grease, though.

James Durbin
Song: "Blaze of Glory" from Young Guns II

Or, if James wanted to be extra ballsy this week, he could sing an Aerosmith song from the Armageddon soundtrack. "Blaze of Glory" would be great for him, though, and he doesn't have to look Bon Jovi in the eye when he's done singing it.

Stefano Langone
Song: "I've Just Seen a Face" from Across the Universe

Provided he's one of the contestants who has heard a Beatles song or two, this would be a great choice for Stefano. It's upbeat and a little more fun than a lot of the emotion-heavy songs he's been singing lately. But if he stays consistent, he might sing something like "How Deep is Your Love" from Saturday Night Fever.

Jacob Lusk
Song: "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls

Has he already sung this in the audition rounds? It doesn't matter, I live for Jacob Lusk singing this song/playing Effie in an all-drag version of Dreamgirls. I would take anything from the Dreamgirls songbook EXCEPT "Listen." Jacob could also sing something from Rent (another musical-turned-movie) and I'd be happy.

Scotty McCreery
Song: "Fallin' & Flyin'" from Crazy Heart

Does he dare? Will he take on a song from Crazy Heart? Go for it, Scotty! Or maybe sing something from Walk the Line. Or Cars. He just needs to stay away from Country Strong, since we all know how untouchable Gwyneth Paltrow is as a country music artist.

Paul McDonald
Song: "Falling Slowly" from Once

John called it early on, Paul McDonald should/must/will sing "Falling Slowly." It's been done a lot on Idol the last few seasons, and Paul has proven that he's much stronger when he speeds it up and loses control a little, but this one feels inevitable.

Haley Reinhart
Song: "Be My Baby" from Dirty Dancing

I keep holding out for Haley to do a song like this one by the Ronettes. Maybe this will be the week? Probably not. It might be cool if she sang something like "You Make My Dreams," as featured in (500) Days of Summer.
