American Idol is thinking of changing their voting system at some point in the future, according to
Hollywood Reporter. This wouldn't happen this season, but it appears that they want to make
American Idol even more like
So You Think You Can Dance, as producers are considering "limiting the number of text votes allowed, incorporating judges' opinions, and other ideas."
Even though Nigel has claimed that Pia Toscano's elimination wasn't a surprise, the producers think she went too soon. Executive producer Ken Warwick has encouraged Pia to pursue other opportunities now that she's off the show, such as her appearance on
Dancing with the Stars. To prevent this from happening again, or just to change the show more to keep it relevant, producers are looking at all their options. They're even considering limiting the number of times a contestant can use an instrument on stage. Warwick wanted to limit it to two, which producers have resisted.
The main goal is to keep voting fair, while still offering options like texting and online voting, and having the contestants on Twitter. But I think we all know that the internet is for one thing and one thing only: watching Jennifer Lopez.
