American Idol 7: Top 9 Live Results
American Idol will send one more young singer home tonight, though no one really knows who it will be.  Depending upon who you talk to, it could be Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook, Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado or even Jason Castro.  Tonight, The Clark Brothers will perform on American Idol.  The Clark Brothers, if you've never heard of them before, were the winners of last summer's failed FOX series The Next Great American Band.  My predictions for the night are as follows: Kristy Lee Cook going home, with Ramiele and Brooke White in the bottom three.  I'll be here throughout the episode with the live results as they come.

Dolly is going to sing live.  Yeah, baby!  So will The Clark Brothers.  Meh.  Paula is wearing an old-timey mango colored blouse.  Silliness.

The group song begins and everyone is singing "9 to 5."  How can you not love this song?  Definitely one of the most bearable group songs I can remember.

Oh, wait scratch that.  The song ends with unbearable corniness, with all nine contestants on the judges booth.  And with jazz hands.  Then a commercial.

Does anyone else think the Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader theme song is kind of catchy?  No?  Not at all.  Should I stop talking?  Well, I've got nothing else to do - they're showing the recap of last night's performances.

I thought Simon was harsh regarding Carly's wardrobe last night, but I didn't really see her pants.  Now that I have, Simon was right.  It looks like she stripped the maroon shag off my grandma's couch.

Time for the first batch of results.

Michael Johns comes out first.  He is safe.  He's a sleeper final three pick

David Archuleta is next.  He's showing some man cleavage tonight (for the ladies, of course). He's safe, obviously.

Carly Smithson is safe, after a naughty fake out from Ryan.

And then, a commercial, with nobody in the bottom three yet.

I was thinking during the commercial break (rare for me) and was wondering what possible massive event could confuse and distract America's female teenagers on a Tuesday and keep them from voting for David Archuleta, and thus place him in the bottom three.  The best I can come up with so far: Zac Efron sex tape.  Any ideas, BuddyTV users?

Time for phone calls from the fans:

Haley, a thirteen year old with a soothing baritone voice, talks to Syesha.  Boring.

Robert asks something to David Cook, but I blacked out for a second.  That's the last time I take huff paint before Idol.

A girl asks Michael and David what song they want to do on the tour.  Their answer: they haven't thought about it.

Mary asks Simon why he always apologizes after criticizing the contestants.  Simon says, for her, he will never apologize again.

The Clark Brothers come on to perform.  They sing "This Little Light of Mine" which, if I recall correctly, they sang like 9 times on The Next Great American Band. It's OK.  They can play their instruments, but the lead singer seems less dynamic than he did last summer.

Next, it's the Ford commercial of the week.  It's easily the most offensive one ever.  The concept: the Idol contestants challenge some ballers to a game of schoolyard basketball.  Kristy Lee Cook, apparently, has a 6 foot vertical.  The song: Run DMC's "Tricky."  You can't make this stuff up.

David Cook arrives on stage.  He is safe.

Ramiele Malubay finally lands in the bottom three.

Kristy Lee Cook thinks she's going to be in the bottom three.  And, she is.

We get a tape, somewhat inexplicably, of Bucky Covington in Nashville.  My indifference knows no bounds.  Also, Phil Stacey.  Except, he's Evil Phil Stacey these days, sporting a menacing goatee/beard.  Also, Bo Bice

More results.

Syesha Mercado is out next.  She is, a little bit surprisingly, safe.

It's down to Brooke White and Jason Castro.  If Brooke is in the bottom three, I will have nailed my predictions.

Brooke is in the bottom three.  My predictions are getting better, everybody.

Another look at Idol Gives Back.  They show us a harrowing tale of two sisters getting separated.  Seriously, if you have money to give, give.

Dolly Parton hits the stage for a performance.  The song is called "Jesus and Gravity."  She uses one of those headset mics, and it's a little disconcerting.  For a 60-year old woman she's not half bad.  The song isn't all that good, however.  At the end of the song, Ryan calls Dolly "hot."  Ha.

Final results time.  Brooke is immediately sent to safety.  My prediction, again, Kristy Lee.

Kristy is safe.

Ramiele has been eliminated.  Huh.
