The first
American Idol Results Show of season seven was as painless a results show as I can remember. This is what happens when you're eliminating four people within an hour, but still,
Ryan Seacrest made it as quick and dirty as possible. There was one sort-of surprise elimination, but nothing earth-shattering. Mostly, all four singers who were sent home tonight had zero potential going forward and would not have done anything in the Top 12. Also, FOX decided to air, in its entirety,
Paula Abdul's new music video. It was bad, but not as bad as it could've been.
American Idol 7: Top 24 Live Results
Before the brutal eliminations began, all 24 singers collaborated for a medley of sixties songs. As one would expect, it was kind of a mess. How could it not have been, with 24 people on a tiny little stage? Nothing special there.
The first elimination was also, perhaps, the fastest elimination in Idol history. Seacrest simply called
Garrett Haley to the stage and told him that he'd be going home. Simple as that. His goodbye song was every bit as treacherous as it was on Tuesday.
Next,
Amy Davis was quickly disposed of, and her goodbye performance was as bad tonight as it was yesterday. No surprises in either of these first two eliminations.
The second female elimination was between
Joanne Borgella and
Amanda Overmyer. Thankfully, Joanne was the one who was voted off. In my heart of hearts, I would have sent
Kristy Lee Cook home along with Amy, but Joanne wasn't too far away.
The final elimination of the night came down to
Chikezie Eze and
Colton Berry. In the biggest surprise of the night, Colton was eliminated from American Idol. Although Colton wasn't very good with his Elvis cover, I thought Chikezie and
Jason Yeager were worse on Tuesday. In a moment that only
Simon Cowell has the gall to pull off, Cowell advised Colton to find a day job and just sing for fun – he doesn't see a musical career in Colton's future.
