Well, I'm a little excited, to be honest. It's our first results show of
American Idol 7, and after tonight two guys and two girls will say goodbye and head home. Being one of the first four contestants voted out doesn't bode well for your future prospects - usually, we never hear from them again. Here are my predictions:
Garrett Haley and
Jason Yeager will be eliminated from the Top 12 Guys.
Amy Davis and
Joanne Borgella will be eliminated from the Top 12 Girls. I'm probably wrong, and I'm sure there will be a surprise departure among the four eliminated - that's why we watch. I'll be here throughout the show giving live updates, so keep refreshing and find out who gets voted off.
And we're off. I spotted a number of silly outfits among the Top 24....details to come.
Over 28 million votes.
Randy's rockin' the V-neck sweater again. Simon is going all black. Paula is Paula and Simon laughs to the side while Paula rambles. How do the producers time out Paula's ramblings?
We get a cheesy montage of the Top 24's photo shoots set to a cheesy Daughtry song. There's fake paparazzi in this video, which is super lame. And, weirdly, Garrett pisses me off just as much when he's walking in slo-mo as when he is sucking on stage.
The Top 24 does a medley of sixties songs. All the men are wearing suits and ties. Robbie and Garrett are wearing stupid hats. Stop smiling, Yeager!
Next, the ladies. Two more stupid hats. They sing "A Rose in Spanish Harlem."
Luke Menard sounded better in his one solo line than he did on Tuesday...I think he's better than that performance showed. At the end, they all bunch together at the front of the stage and give some static jazz hands. Eh.
Best moment of the night so far: The Vitamin Water commercial where 50 Cent conducts the symphony. Fun fact: 50 Cent was an early investor in Vitamin Water and when Coca-Cola (I think) bought Vitamin Water, 50 got paid out something like $400 million.
We're going to focus on the guy's first. We get a long recap of all of the performances from Tuesday.
Results time: Ryan brings out Garrett and talks to him. I can't explain how dumb his hat is.
Garrett Haley has been eliminated. That was quick and dirty. Well, I'm one for one so far. He gets to sing his song again. It's not any better than on Tuesday.
Time for the first female elimination. But first, we get the recap of last night's performances.
Kristy Lee Cook joins Ryan on stage, but she is safe.
Amy Davis has been eliminated from American Idol. Two for two, baby!
Amy's farewell performance shows exactly why she was eliminated.
Oh, God! Noooooooooooooooooooooo! It's a special presentation of
Paula Abdul's new music video "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow." There's a lot of dancing and shots of Randy playing the bass. It's a tremendously awful song. The vocals were filtered through a number of synthesizers. OK, I'm not going to talk about it anymore. Time for a five minute nap.
Next ladies results: Joanne Borgella and
Amanda Overmyer join Ryan on stage. One of them is going home. It has to be Joanne. We'll learn who after the break. I'm just glad that neither
Kady Malloy or
Brooke White are going home. America is doing well so far.
The lights are dimmed - who will it be?
Joanne Borgella has been eliminated from American Idol. You know what that means - three for three!
Final elimination of the night - will I go four for four on my predictions? Let's see.
Chikezie Eze and
Colton Berry join Ryan on stage. Damn, maybe my Jason Yeager prediction was off.
Colton Berry has been eliminated from American Idol. Well, that's a surprise.
Ha! Simon tells Colton that he should get a real job, then sing for fun. He doesn't think Colton can make a career out of it. I love brutal honesty. And that's it for the night.
