American Idol

-Reality Originally conceived as the US version of Britain's Pop Idol, American Idol has since exploded into a full-fledged pop culture phenomena, launching the careers of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, resurrecting Paula Abdul and introducing America to a guy named Simon Cowell. Each week, contestants belt out stirring renditions of classic pop songs, while enduring the slings and arrows of the judges (or in Simon's case spears and axes) before America votes to decide who will be the next American Idol.

American Idol 7: Top 10 Live Results
Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Jason Castro, American IdolAmerican Idol eliminates one more singer tonight, and the results are completely up in the air.  Depending on who you ask, any of these singers could be leaving us tonight: Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook, Chikezie Eze, and Carly Smithson.  It should be an exciting night.  My personal prediction is that Carly Smithson will be eliminated tonight on American Idol, not because she deserves it, but because I think her fan base is much smaller than what most people assume.  With last night's silly "song from the year you were born" theme, I wonder what the group song will be.  I'll be here throughout the episode giving live updates as the results pour in.

Kimberly Locke will show up and sing tonight.  Ryan will take more time-filling calls.  Simon is dropping some man cleavage tonight.

The group song begins and it might be the chessiest one yet.  There are lots of dance moves.  It's like a Brady Bunch musical up there.  I can't watch anymore.

Ryan introduces an infomercial for iTunes.  We see a behind the scenes of all the contestants recording the iTunes versions of their songs.  But, really, who are we kidding - this is an ad for Apple.

Next, it's the long highlight reel from last night's show.  AKA, nap time.

Time for some results, yo:

Chikezie Eze is in the bottom three. Not unexpected.

Brooke White is safe.  She's wearing aqua colored pants - a little disconcerting.

Carly Smithson takes the stage.  She says that there was a report today that Carly is pregnant.  She's not.  Anyways, she is safe.  Which means my predictions were waaay off.  Darn.

"I Want You to Want Me" is the song for this week's Ford commercial. It's not that bad this week.

More results:

David Archuleta is safe.  Weird.

David Cook is safe.  Chris Cornell loved his performance last night, according to Ryan.

Syesha Mercado is in the bottom three.  That, my friends, is undeserved.

Michael Johns is safe.

Ryan takes some calls: One lady wants to know if Chikezie is single (he is).  Archuleta is asked why he chose the song he did (he looooves John Farnham, which is a weird person to love).  A woman wants to know what she can do to take Ryan's job (Simon says it doesn't take much talent, so there's hope for everyone).

Kimberly Locke arrives to perform.  She's happy and confident these days.  I didn't watch her season, so I'm not familiar with her.  She sing OK. Is this performance going on for like 20 minutes or am I just used to the 90 second performances on Idol?

We get another long look at Idol Gives Back and all the good it has done.  Ryan asks for corporations to sack up and give some money.

More results:

Ramiele Malubay is super short.  And she's safe.  Her mysterious voting block is quite powerful.

Jason Castro and Kristy Lee Cook come on stage.  One will be in the bottom three.

Kristy Lee Cook is safe.

Jason Castro is in the bottom three.  Wow.  That (for me) was unexpected.  The voting is really fluid this season.

Well, that was quick.  Almost immediately after joining the bottom three, Ryan tells Jason that he is safe.

Time for the final results.  Who will go home, Chikezie or Syesha?

Chikezie Eze has been eliminated from American Idol.  Not a total surprise, and Chikezie wasn't going to win this anything, so I can't be too upset.

Did American make the correct decisions tonight?
