FX is in the middle of airing season 5 of American Horror Story, but the network is ready to commit to even more freakish and gory storylines.

The Ryan Murphy-created anthology series has been renewed for season 6, which will premiere in fall 2016.

“With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series,” FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf said in a statement. “From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well as becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.”

He went on to say, “This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.”

American Horror Story continues to be a success in the ratings department. Season 4, Freak Show, delivered the highest-viewed TV show episode in the history of FX. And the premiere of the current season, Hotel, became the second highest-viewed episode for the network.

Hotel has aired five episodes so far, and based on the first four episodes, season 5 has seen a 1% increase in viewership compared to season 4 (averaging 6.4 million viewers), as well as a 7% increase in the 18-49 demo, based on Live+3 ratings.

Over the course of its run so far, AHS has earned 71 nominations and 13 wins at the Emmy Awards. At the 2015 awards, the series won for Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Costumes, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup and Outstanding Makeup.

Season 5 is set in a mysterious hotel and has seen music superstar Lady Gaga join the cast that includes the likes of Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson and Angela Bassett, among many others. In early October, Ryan Murphy revealed on Twitter that he asked Gaga to return for season 6. It is unknown at this time if she has accepted.

Are you excited that AHS has been renewed? Do you want Lady Gaga to return? Are you hoping Jessica Lange can be persuades to come back? And what setting/story would you want to see the new season focus on?

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10pm on FX.
