FX announced today that their hit anthology mini-series American Horror Story will be continued for a third season premiering in Fall 2013.
The new season will shift locations and themes as the show did from the Murder House of season 1 to the Asylum for season 2. Jessica Lange will return in a new role for this third installment in an unknown role.
American Horror Story: Asylum
has seen a ratings increase over last year, including a double-digit percentage growth in every demo compared to its predecessor, American Horror Story, pacing 19% ahead in the key demo of Adults 18-49.
"With American Horror Story: Asylum, Ryan [Murphy] and Brad [Falchuk] have raised the bar in every way from Murder House, the first American Horror Story miniseries," said John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks. "And their original idea--the notion of doing an anthological series of miniseries with a repertory cast--has proven groundbreaking, wildly successful and will prove to be trendsetting. We can't wait to see what deviously brilliant ideas they come up with for their third miniseries."
The only casting announcement made so far is for Jessica Lange to return, but other actors from the series are expected to have original roles as well.
"The American Horror Story anthology is a labor of love for all of us and we could not be prouder of the work our brilliant company of actors and everyone on the production team is doing this year," said Murphy. "
Let the speculation begin about the next theme and who will return. Who would you like to see return for another crack at American Horror Story? A murder house and an asylum have been covered. As have possession, Nazis, aliens, and a Bloody Face serial killer. What would you like to see come next?
