Last year, the creative minds behind the witty musical-comedy television show Glee
took a dark turn. American Horror Story
was born as a mini-series, meaning the ill-fated Harmon family will not be seen again. This gives way to new plotlines and new characters, but that doesn't mean we've seen the last of Jessica Lange.
FX has released a 29-second promo for American Horror Story: Asylum
, depicting, of course, demented and disturbingly dark images of what is yet to come. So what can we tell from this glimpse? Just that it will be pretty demented and disturbingly dark! Oh, and there will be tons of sexual content, so put the kiddos to bed.
American Horror Story: Freak Show is available on Amazon Prime.
Lange will return along with Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe who now find themselves in the midst of a 1960s mental institution. Peters' character is being committed and while there are no hints as to what crime he's committed this time around, there is a particular scene where a creepy nun (Lange) calmly tells him, "Here you will repent for your sins to the only judge that matters." Judging by the straps that hold the terrified boy to his bed, they'll make him repent anyway they can.
Mind if we have a quick history lesson? Let's think about the era we're being thrown back in for a moment. Mental institutions were thought to be the place where the insane were cured, yet tools and procedures used were found to be inhumane, causing the patients to fall even further into insanity. Peters is seen in one clip with a sort of face mask, preventing much movement while his eyes are held open. Suddenly, films like Saw
and A Clockwork Orange
come to mind.
Okay, wipe those images out of your mind (until you brave the promo for yourself). It wouldn't be AHS
if there wasn't a strong sense of sexuality, right? Where's the craziest place you have ever had - well you get where I'm going with this. A lot of sex will be had, judging by the more than suggestive images that flash by. I suppose the question is, who will be having it? Will the patients find solace against one another? Will the doctors enjoy some much needed down time? Or will the patients seduce their doctors, keeping in mind Dr. Harmon of last year? Oh, the possibilities!
Basically, you are looking at an amped up version of the first season. Just be careful not to go crazy while watching!American Horror Story: Asylum
premieres October 17 at 10PM on FX.
