Just in time for Election Day, FOX has cast its vote of confidence to
American Dad for yet another season. The animated series from
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has averaged just fewer than 7 million viewers anchoring the network's Animation Domination Sunday but has proved to be a phenomenal hit.
The renewal of
American Dad comes on the heels of the cancellation of the network's long-running animated series
King of the Hill, following 13 seasons. For the midseason, the network has a pair of animated comedy offerings, including
The Cleveland Show and
Sit Down, Shut Up.
The show revolves around the Smith family, who lives in the fictional community of Langley Falls, Virginia in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Taking the center stage on
American Dad is Stan, voiced by Seth MacFarlane, a CIA employee who juggles family life with his efforts to ensure the safety of his country. The show also features Stan's family, including
Roger the Alien (Seth MacFarlane),
Francine Smith (Wendy Schaal),
Steve Smith (
Scott Grimes), Hayley Smith (Rachael MacFarlane) and
Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker).
Meanwhile, the show's producers have acknowledged that a possible regime change in Washington would impact the series' creative landscape.
"It's going to be really interesting," co-creator and executive producer Mike Barker said. "Stan has ... been on the winning side for so long. To see him deal with what is, you know, hopefully going to be the other side, it's going to be an opportunity. It's actually really cool for the show because it gives us a chance to see him kind of vulnerable and kind of more."
This month, fans can catch all-new episodes of
American Dad every Sunday at 9:30pm ET/PT. This week's episode follows Steve as he schemes to exact revenge against the popular girls in school in "Pulling Double Booty."
