Like we mentioned in this week's edition of our
All My Children Spoilers, one of the bitter aftermaths of the surrealistic drama that took place at Jesse (Darnell Williams) and Angie's (Debbi Morgan) is the death of
Sydney Penny Julia Santos.
Penny takes her final bow on
All My Children this week, with Bobbi Eakes' Krystal staying at her side as she succumbs to injuries from the wedding shooting gallery.
Penny first signed on to the daytime show way back in September of 1993. She landed the role of the middle Santos child, a part she essayed regularly until November of 1996. At that point, her character was written out of the story through her entry into the Federal Witness Relocation Program, although she did come out of her forced seclusion to make occasional brief returns to Pine Valley between 1999 and 2002.
Three years ago, Penny returned full time to the soap in August of 2005. Her comeback was originally intended to fill in the void left behind when a handful of the show's prominent female leads left. Initially built up as a pivotal throwback to some of
All My Children's finest years in recent history, Penny's homecoming began with an ostentatious enough debut. Sadly, her onscreen persona went from that impressive return to a character without a canvas to walk on.
For starters, just before Penny rejoined
All My Children as a regular, her sister on the soap (
CSI: Miami's
Eva LaRue as Maria Santos) made her own exit from the series. This killed any chance of Julia appearing in any storyline that might have involved the two sisters forging stronger ties. Having been reduced to practically a side note, and without any story to speak of for far too long, Penny and her series character finally depart from Pine Valley in this week's
All My Children.
