ABC and
All My Children are in the thick of things this Valentine month, with special projects and collaborative efforts for and about the heart. On the romance front, ABC has gathered some of its brightest soap stars with their respective renditions of some popular love songs compiled in the CD entitled
Love Affair.
To represent
All My Children,
David Canary,
Bobbie Eakes and
Susan Lucci had been tapped to lend their vocal prowess to the project.
For Lucci and Eakes, this isn't the first time they've worked on a CD for the network. Both actresses also took part in
Love Affair's predecessor,
A Holiday Affair, released in November of last year, as ABC's first collection of songs interpreted by its soap stars.
For this Valentine album, Lucci, who plays Erica Kane on
All My Children, crooned “Falling in Love” while Eakes, who essays the role of Krystal Martin on the daytime drama, picked Celine Dion's 1996 Billboard chart-topper, “Because You Loved Me.”
“I've always loved that song,” Eakes said of her choice, during a recent telephone interview with the
Albany Herald.
She was, however, quick to admit that her interpretation was definitely her own and not an attempt at mimicking the original.
“Nobody can copy Celine Dion,” Eakes said. “It's not as big and broad. It's more scaled down,” the actress added, pointing out that her version has more of a country sound.
One thing she was definitely excited about was hearing her
All My Children co-star David Canary (Adam Chandler), with his rendition of his chosen song.
“It'll be interesting to hear how he interprets ‘You Were Always on My Mind,' ” Eakes quipped.
Unlike Eakes and Lucci, this is Canary's first involvement in a musical project.
ABC and SoapNet's
Love Affair CD hit the shelves last week and retails for just under $19.
