Mia Maestro was born June 19, 1978 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maestro, who is of Spanish and Italian descent, initially trained in her native Argentina but moved to Berlin at age 18 in order to develop a vocal repertoire of the works of Kurt Weill and Hans Eisler in the German tongue. While in Germany, she undertook a rigorous schedule of voice, dance and music classes, which bore fruit for her in the form of significant dramatic performances upon her return to Buenos Aires. In 1998, she won an Ace Award for Best New Artist of the Year for her portrayal of Lulu in Wedekind's Pandora's Box at the San Martin Theater.
Nadia Santos, played by Mia Maestro on Alias, is the daughter of confirmed terrorist turned CIA informant, Arvin Sloane, and KGB operative, Irina Derevko. She is also the half-sister of agent Sydney Bristow.
