There have been some truly awful mothers on TV, but Irina Derevko (Lena Olin) from
Alias would probably take the take. After all, she did try to murder her own daughter in the series finale. Regardless, as ruthless a woman as she was, the fifth season episode “Maternal Instinct” showed that there is at least a tiny bit of motherly love in every mom.

Irina Derevko may not be the best mom ever, but she's certainly the coolest.
Though Irina tries to steal an artifact by deceiving her daughter yet again, things go wrong when Sydney goes into labor on their mission. Rather than flee with what she came for, Irina sticks behind and helps deliver Sydney's baby. The look on Irina's face when she holds the newborn is the briefest of glimpse at the maternal heart beating somewhere deep within her. She still leaves with the stolen artifact, but at least she calls Marshall to help extract Sydney before leaving, going so far as to instruct him to bring diapers.
