Obviously Adam Lambert has been the most successful of last season's
American Idol crop. 200,000 copies of his debut album sold! That's way ahead of releases from both champion Kris Allen and fourth placer Allison Iraheta. Controversial he may be, you cannot question that's he become a big star... and yet he's afraid of one thing.
"[I'm scared] that people won't want to buy the rest of my music,"
Lambert told OK Magazine during the Z100 Jingle Ball in New York last week. "That people will stop being interested, I think that's my biggest fear."
I don't think it's necessarily because of that controversial performance at the American Music Awards a few weeks back, although obviously some people were turned off by that number. Still, Adam's
Idol batchmates were quick to defend that infamous performance.
"As a performer myself, I know that when you're onstage, you give it your all, and that's what he did," Allison Iraheta, who was also at the concert, said. "I don't think anyone should've been surprised."
"I thought it was Adam being Adam," winner Kris Allen told reporters in a separate gig. "Obviously, he couldn't do that stuff on
Idol, and so you're getting to see the real Adam now."
The question now, I guess, is whether fans will be comfortable with seeing the real Adam. We'll see, we'll see.
