Before Tila Nguyen became the star of the reality dating series A Shot at Love
as love searcher Tila Tequila
, this 26-year-old MySpace sensation first tapped into the music scene. Using modeling as a stepping stone for other ventures, Tila acted on her interest in rock music and started looking for bands to participate in at the age of 20. She initially put together a band called Beyond Betty Jean and then eventually became the lead singer of the band called Jealousy, which has released songs over the internet.
Soon Tila experienced a major turn in her music career as she launched her debut album, which currently consists of three singles such as "I Love U," "Stripper Friends" and "Paralyze," her latest release that has a music video featuring Tila in a darkened shower scene with a man. Beyond the provocative scenes, Tila explains that the song has a deeper meaning to it.
“I wrote the song ‘Paralyze.' [It's] about being in a relationship and it's about loving someone so much so unconditionally that it hurts and you keep sticking around even though your friends are like ‘they treat you so bad why don't you leave the person' and it's not always that easy so you stick around hoping that maybe one day they'll love you back just as much as you love them. But they don't so that's why I wrote the song ‘Paralyze,'” Tila wrote in her official blog.
According to the Shot at Love
star, music is something that she never really aimed for growing up. It started with poetry writing, which is her way of channeling her emotions, and then led to music writing and instrument playing.
“My life gets pretty hectic sometimes…a lot of stress going on and music is the only outlet I have that is like therapy. It's kinda like sex…you write songs and you don't think about anything else. So when I'm in the studio I don't think about anything else I don't think about paying bills or what you have to do next week…you just write songs and it's kinda like an escape to your fantasy world,” the Shot at Love
