Shannen Doherty to Return to '90210'?
Wednesday, July 02, 2008

DohertyVarious sources, as compiled by Entertainment Weekly, have reported that tabloid darling Shannen Doherty may just be coming back to CW's highly anticipated 90210 update.  According to them, the show's producers recently met with Doherty to discuss this mind-blowing possibility.  She is allegedly interested, but according to an insider, "she wants to know what the story is going to be first." Moreover, she is putting a higher price tag for her return.

This is certainly big news.  As huge as Beverly Hills 90210 was during the 90s, fans knew how acrimonious Doherty's departure was.  This forebodes a possible gap between potentially future co-stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth.  On this Garth reasons that, “A lot of time has passed, and I'm a big girl. I'd have no problem with her coming on the show."

This is huge for 90210 if ever it pushes through. For her part, Doherty's career hasn't been exactly stellar post-Beverly Hills 90210.  Sure, there was Charmed, but need we remind you that she also left that series because of a rift with co-star Alyssa Milano?

In 2001, seven years after leaving Beverly Hills 90210 in 1994, Doherty was involved in a series of drunk driving charges.  She was sentenced to either 10 days in jail or 20 days of work release duty, three years probation, and a $1,500 fine.  She also reportedly punched a drunk Tara Reid for shouting at her.  There were also rumors about a fistfight that ensued between her and Garth, which was documented in Spelling's memoirs.

It's precisely because of these things that the top people are apprehensive in hiring Doherty again.

"They should demand good behavior and get rid of her quick if they don't get it," according to a top TV producer. "The danger is that the show becomes a big hit, and her participation is seen as essential.  If that happens, and she's still a disruptive, dysfunctional actor, then they've got a big mess."
