Tristan Wilds is a fun-loving guy. After playing the emotionally-burdened Michael on HBO's gritty Baltimore drama
The Wire, Wilds now takes up residence on
90210, a show where he gets to play sports and flirt with girls. It's a huge leap, but one he's settled into quite nicely.
When BuddyTV visited the set of
90210, we spoke we Tristan Wilds about the change, his character's backstory, and Dixon's burgeoning relationship with Silver. Continue reading for more details and to watch our exclusive video interview.
Wilds is clearly an energetic young man, full of excitement over his new role. The chance to unwind is a relief for him, and as of now, the show is still young enough that he hasn't had to deal with an explosion of fame yet. However, when it comes, he and the rest of the young cast are in good hands, co-starring with original
Beverly Hills 90210 cast members
Jennie Garth and
Shannen Doherty who know a thing or two about coping with sudden fame.
While he has yet to share scenes with those two actresses, one co-star Dixon is snuggling up to is Silver. It's still in its early stages, but Wilds promised that Dixon will be good to her and that his character is a one-woman man.
The diversity issue is the biggest change to the new show, but Tristan Wilds doesn't really see it as an issue. In 2008, he believes the world is more accepting of diversity and interracial relationships, so the fact that he's an African-American living with a white family or that he's dating a white girl are not as relevant as they were even 15 years ago when the original series was on.
The wholesome family storylines on 90210 are especially important for Wilds because he also comes from a good, loving family, and he likes the fact that the Wilson family gets along. He revealed that off camera, his TV family acts a bit like a real family, and while waiting to film a scene, they usually hang out together doing something simple like working on a crossword puzzle as a family.
90210 airs Tuesdays at 8pm on the CW. Come back to BuddyTV next Tuesday and Wednesday for our exclusive video interviews with Rob Estes and Jessica Stroup.
