Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty on the same set? Sounds nice, but don't count on it.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Spelling, 35, who plays Donna Martin on the original
90210, is now in final talks (“final negotiations” in their own words) with the showrunners of the modern revamp to return for multiple episodes. Apparently, Spelling was a little concerned not with the paycheck this time but with the possibility of crossing paths with Shannen Doherty, whom she had less than amicable relationship with in the past. Now, since Doherty has bid the zip goodbye for the season, Spelling can go around 90210 without fear of running into Brenda Walsh.
The launch of the new
90210 in September last year was very much buoyed by the fact that a majority of the stars from the original series would be coming back to reprise their roles, which, to lot of the 90s kids, were very memorable to say the least. Negotiations broke off as far as Spelling was concerned in August last year, first when she said she wanted to focus on her family, then finally when she expressed discontent over her paycheck. Apparently, Doherty and fellow cast Jennie Garth would both be getting around $35,000 to $50,000 per episode, while Spelling would only be getting $10,000 to $20,000.
It was reported before that her character will make the much-hyped return as a older version of herself, who owns one of the hippest shopping destinations frequent by the new cast. For their parts, both Doherty and Garth, plus Joe E. Tata have all returned in the revamp playing older versions of their original characters. Meanwhile, Jason Priestley, who played Brandon Walsh in the original, will go back to the zip but not as an actor. He'll direct an episode, which is set to air on March 18.
