Well, that didn't take long. Shannen Doherty will return to
90210 for two more additional episodes, which will air in November. Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh in the original
Beverly Hills 90210 and preliminarily signed on for four episodes of the CW
90210 spin-off, was initially reticent of overstaying her welcome in the new series. But, her work on
90210 with
Jennie Garth, another hold-over from the original cast, was successful enough for both parties to sign off on another return. The last time we saw Brenda, she was preparing to leave town. Brenda also dramatically deleted Dylan McKay's number from her cell phone. Doherty will return for
90210's eleventh and twelfth episodes of the season, and she hasn't ruled out the possibility of appearing in additional episodes later in the season.
Let's be honest – unless
90210 was an utter failure, a disgrace to television and fans of the original series, Doherty was going to come back as long as the producers wanted her to. It's not like she has a lot of other work lined up. That's not to say that Doherty hasn't been good for
90210. It's been fun to see a grown-up Brenda back in the famed zip code of her youth. She's matured, surely, and her relationship with Kelly Taylor has been cordial, though shades of Brenda's past bitchiness have been hinted at in interesting ways.
You have to imagine that Brenda's return to the series will coincide with Kelly's return. Her baby-daddy issues will certainly involve Brenda, given the shared past the two ladies have with Dylan. The deletion of Dylan's phone number was an ominous sign. I'm hoping for some serious conflict between Kelly and Brenda. Maybe some old-school man-stealing will be involved (Are you ready to become a pawn, Mr. Matthews?).
The next new episode of
90210 airs Tuesday, October 28, on the CW.
